Wix guide

Can AI agents shop a Wix store?

Usually, because Wix renders pages on the server, adds Product markup to every product page and writes llms.txt for you, but agents commonly miss delivery costs that appear only at checkout, prices behind option pickers, and policies tucked into pop-ups.

Wix runs the hosting and the code, so your levers are settings: the Robots.txt Editor, structured data markup, llms.txt, and how your product pages and policies are laid out. Every Wix site also answers AI tools through its own MCP server.

What usually breaks on Wix

Wix sets good defaults, so problems are commonly about where facts sit on the page, and about settings changed by hand.

  1. 01

    Delivery cost appears only at checkout

    Wix works out shipping for the address entered at checkout, with an estimate on the cart page at most. Under the price, the product page has room for a short shipping and tax line only. Agents stop before cart and checkout, so they find no delivery cost unless a page states it.[7][8]

  2. 02

    One price for a product with many options

    The Product preset fills a price from your product's details, and the page updates the price when a shopper picks options. Wix doesn't document per-option offers in its markup, so an agent asked about a specific size commonly sees one price and has to work the picker to check.[4][5]

  3. 03

    Policies live in pop-ups and the checkout footer

    Refund and other policies show as links in the checkout footer, and the product page shipping line can open a pop-up. Neither is a page an agent can find from a product before checkout.[8][9]

  4. 04

    An AI block that also stops assistants

    Wix's own example for blocking AI crawlers lists ChatGPT-User next to GPTBot. ChatGPT-User is what fetches your page when a shopper asks ChatGPT about it, so copying the whole block also turns shoppers' questions away. Wix warns it may limit NLWeb too.[2][17]

  5. 05

    An edited llms.txt stops updating

    Wix keeps llms.txt current on its own, but once you edit the file it stops updating until you reset it, so new products and policy pages never reach it.[3]

How to fix it on Wix

Everything here is in the Wix dashboard or editor. No code is needed, except optional custom markup.

  1. 1

    Block training crawlers only, in the Robots.txt Editor

    Open SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > Robots.txt Editor. If you want out of model training, block GPTBot and CCBot, but leave ChatGPT-User and OAI-SearchBot out of it so assistants can still read your pages. Reset to Default undoes any experiment.[1][2][17]

    Robots.txt Editor, added lines
    # Opt out of model training only
    User-agent: GPTBot
    Disallow: /

    User-agent: CCBot
    Disallow: /

    # No block for ChatGPT-User or OAI-SearchBot,
    # so assistants can read pages when a shopper asks.
  2. 2

    Put delivery facts on the product page and a delivery page

    Turn on the shipping info line under the price, and write a delivery page with rates and times for each region you ship to. Link it from the product page's info section, not only from a pop-up.[7][8]

  3. 3

    Make returns a page, linked from every product

    Wix Payments recommends showing your refund and return policy on each product or across all pages. Publish it as its own page, link it from the product info section and the footer, and keep the checkout link too.[9][10]

  4. 4

    Add your return policy to the markup

    Under SEO settings > Structured data markup, keep the Product preset and add a site-wide return policy as custom markup on your homepage. Google reads a store-wide policy from Organization markup.[4][18]

    Custom markup (example values, use your own)
    {
      "@context": "https://schema.org",
      "@type": "Organization",
      "name": "Northwind Outdoor",
      "url": "https://www.example.com",
      "hasMerchantReturnPolicy": {
        "@type": "MerchantReturnPolicy",
        "applicableCountry": "US",
        "returnPolicyCategory": "https://schema.org/MerchantReturnFiniteReturnWindow",
        "merchantReturnDays": 30,
        "returnMethod": "https://schema.org/ReturnByMail",
        "returnFees": "https://schema.org/FreeReturn",
        "merchantReturnLink": "https://www.example.com/returns"
      }
    }
  5. 5

    Let llms.txt update itself

    In SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > llms.txt, reset an edited file so Wix keeps it current. If you want AI agents to search your catalog in plain language, install NLWeb from the same menu; it needs an upgraded site and a connected domain.[3][12]

What Wix has announced for AI agents

What Aiscovery checks on Wix

From the outside, the way an agent sees your store. Nothing to install, and agents stop before login, cart, checkout and payment.

  • What your robots.txt, including Robots.txt Editor changes, declares for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and other AI crawlers.
  • The llms.txt Wix makes for you: whether it is there and readable.
  • Page basics and JSON-LD syntax, including custom markup you added.
  • Reachability and redirects for our identified checker, which reads pages without running JavaScript.
  • GPT-6 Luna and Gemini try to find a product, its price for an option, stock, delivery and returns, stopping before cart and checkout.

Questions about Wix and AI agents

Does Wix block AI crawlers?

Not by default. Wix's default robots.txt has no AI crawler rules: on a live Wix site we saw User-agent: * with Allow: / and nothing else for AI bots. You can add your own blocks in the Robots.txt Editor, under SEO & GEO > Tools and settings.

How do I block GPTBot on Wix but stay in ChatGPT answers?

Add a User-agent: GPTBot group with Disallow: / in the Robots.txt Editor, and don't block OAI-SearchBot or ChatGPT-User. GPTBot collects training data; OAI-SearchBot powers ChatGPT search, and ChatGPT-User fetches pages when a user asks.

What is the MCP server on my Wix site?

Wix says every site is an MCP server at yoursite.com/_api/mcp, on by default, so AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude can ask it about your business and offerings. NLWeb, an optional install, adds a natural language endpoint for searching your catalog.

Does Wix make an llms.txt file?

Yes, automatically, on upgraded sites with a connected custom domain and search indexing on. You can view or edit it under SEO & GEO > Tools and settings; editing stops automatic updates until you reset it.

Can ChatGPT buy from a Wix store?

Wix says its Stripe agentic commerce integration is rolling out gradually to eligible merchants, so check your dashboard. We couldn't confirm which AI agents can complete a purchase on Wix stores today.

Do I need a Wix app to use Aiscovery?

No. Aiscovery tests your store from the outside, the way an agent sees it, so there is nothing to add to your Wix site.
