Shopware guide
Can AI agents shop a Shopware store?
Usually yes, since every variant has its own server-rendered page and Shopware 6.7 manages robots.txt in the admin, but the 'plus shipping costs' text opens in a pop-up, the default robots.txt blocks every address with a query string, and return terms are missing from the markup.
Shopware 6 runs on your servers or Shopware's cloud, with robots.txt, structured data and shipping pages as settings and templates you control. Since 2026 it also ships an agentic commerce sales channel and an experimental MCP server.

Shopware at a glance
- robots.txt
- Settings > General > Basic information since 6.7.1. Before that, a file in public/.
- Structured data
- Microdata by default in 6.7; JSON-LD behind the JSON_LD_DATA flag, planned as the only format in 6.8.
- Variants
- Each variant has its own address and server-rendered page; picking one reloads the page.
- Agent channels
- Agentic Commerce sales channel (6.7.10) and an experimental MCP server (6.7.11).
What usually breaks on Shopware
Shopware's product pages are agent-friendly by design. The gaps are around delivery, robots defaults and returns.
- 01
Shipping costs sit behind a pop-up
'Prices incl. VAT plus shipping costs' under the price is a button that loads your shipping and payment page into a modal. The shipping text isn't in the product page's HTML, so an agent reading the page finds the phrase but not the cost.[4]
- 02
The default robots.txt blocks every query string
Since 6.7.1 Shopware generates robots.txt with Allow: / and Disallow: /*?, which keeps crawlers out of filtered listings and search results. With the staging setting on, the whole file becomes Disallow: /, which is easy to carry over to a live shop by mistake.[1][2]
- 03
No return policy, and no shipping rate, in the markup
Shopware's JSON-LD handles variants well, as a ProductGroup, but its shipping details carry at most the handling time from your delivery time, and only on a single Offer, never a rate, and there is no return policy. The default microdata has neither.[5]
- 04
Returns live in the admin, not on the page
Returns management, from the Rise plan, is something the merchant creates from an order in the admin. Shoppers and agents only learn your terms from the page you wrote, if it's linked where they look.[6]
- 05
Cookie consent covers the page
Consent banners configured as full-page overlays commonly hide prices and options until someone clicks, and a browser agent has to find the right button first.
How to fix it on Shopware
Most fixes are in the Administration. Template changes go in your theme, so they survive updates.
- 1
Review robots.txt in Basic information
In Settings > General > Basic information, check the staging setting is off on your live shop, and add your own groups per sales channel. Before 6.7.1, keep a file in public/ and, for several domains, rewrite /robots.txt to one file per host as Shopware's docs show.[1][3]
Basic information > robots.txt rules (added)# Model training: opt out User-agent: GPTBot Disallow: / User-agent: CCBot Disallow: / # Search crawlers and user-requested fetchers keep # following Shopware's default * group. - 2
Put shipping costs in the page, not only the modal
Keep the 'plus shipping costs' link, and add a one-line delivery summary with cost and time to the product description or a CMS block in your product layout, so the answer is in the page text.[4]
- 3
Switch to JSON-LD and add your return policy
From 6.7.9.0 the JSON_LD_DATA feature flag replaces microdata with JSON-LD, including ProductGroup variants; Shopware plans to make it permanent in 6.8, which isn't released yet (6.7.15.1 is the latest, from October 2026). Extend the product JSON-LD template in your theme to add a return policy, or publish one store-wide on your Organization.[5][7]
- 4
Publish your returns terms and link them from products
Write a returns page with the window, condition and who pays return shipping, link it from the product page and footer, and keep it in step with the returns you create in the admin.[6]
- 5
Try the agentic commerce channel on purpose
The Agentic Commerce extension (beta) adds a UCP endpoint per sales channel, product feeds for OpenAI and Google, and an llms.txt and agents.md. Registration for ChatGPT's merchant program is US only and not yet available in Europe, per Shopware's docs.[11]
What Shopware has announced for AI agents
Shopware has moved quickly in 2026, mostly behind feature flags and in beta. Newest last.

- Jun 2026Experimental MCP serverShopware 6.7.11.0 added an MCP server behind a feature flag, with admin tools and storefront product search, experimental until 6.8.[9]
- Jun 2026Full MCP coverage and UCP readinessAt Community Day, Shopware announced every platform action available to AI tools and agents, readiness for UCP, and an agentic Shopware Copilot.[10]
- Oct 2026Agentic Commerce extension in betaThe extension adds UCP, including checkout for the shopper, product feeds for OpenAI and Google, and agent files per sales channel.[11]
What Aiscovery checks on Shopware
From the outside, the way an agent sees your store. Nothing to install, and agents stop before login, cart, checkout and payment.
- What your robots.txt declares for each AI crawler, and whether staging mode has closed the shop.
- Whether robots.txt rules block listing, search or product addresses agents need.
- Page basics and JSON-LD syntax; microdata-only pages show up as missing JSON-LD.
- Reachability, redirects and AI-facing files: sitemaps, llms.txt and agents.md where the check finds them.
- GPT-6 Luna and Gemini try to find a product, a variant's price, stock, delivery cost and returns, stopping before cart and checkout.
Questions about Shopware and AI agents
Where do I edit robots.txt in Shopware 6?
Since Shopware 6.7.1, in Settings > General > Basic information, globally or per sales channel. On older versions, robots.txt is a file you create in the public/ folder.
Does Shopware block AI crawlers?
Not by default. The generated robots.txt has one * group that allows the shop and blocks addresses with query strings. With the staging setting on, it outputs Disallow: / instead of the defaults.
Does Shopware output JSON-LD?
Optionally in 6.7: from 6.7.9.0 the JSON_LD_DATA feature flag switches the storefront from microdata to JSON-LD. Shopware plans to make JSON-LD the only format in 6.8, which isn't released yet.
Why can't agents find our shipping costs?
The 'plus shipping costs' link under the price opens your shipping page in a pop-up loaded on click, so the costs aren't in the product page itself. Add a short delivery summary to the page.
Can ChatGPT buy from a Shopware store?
Shopware's Agentic Commerce extension, in beta, supports UCP including checkout, and a product feed for ChatGPT whose merchant registration Shopware says is US only and not yet available in Europe. Without it, agents can still read your product pages.
Do I need a Shopware extension to use Aiscovery?
No. Aiscovery tests your storefront from the outside, the way an agent sees it, so there is nothing to install.
